About Megan Shea — Therapist & Holistic Coach

Healing · Connection · Growth

I’m Megan Shea — an American-born Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, Psychotherapist, and Holistic Coach with over 20 years’ experience as a counsellor and 8 years as a clinical therapist. I help adults and couples navigate trauma, anxiety, neurodivergence, relationship challenges, intimacy, and major life transitions.

I provide therapy across Australia via Telehealth (with Medicare rebates and NDIS access available), as well as holistic coaching and clinical supervision worldwide. Having lived and worked in both the United States and Australia, I understand the realities of relocation, cultural adjustment, and building a sense of belonging while away from home. This helps me connect with expats, digital nomads, and internationally trained practitioners who are navigating identity and transition across borders.

My Approach

I integrate evidence-based psychotherapy (CBT, ACT, DBT, EFT, Narrative Therapy, EMDR in progress), attachment and systems theory, somatic awareness, mindfulness, and expressive arts. My practice is also informed by recovery and 12-step principles, supporting clients to cultivate resilience, integrity, and sustained change.

This creates a collaborative space where you can:

  • Process trauma and rebuild resilience

  • Strengthen relationships and boundaries

  • Navigate identity shifts, grief, or life transitions

  • Realign with creativity, purpose, and confidence

Credentials & Training

  • Master of Social Work (MSW) – University of Southern California (Adult Mental Health)

  • Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW) – AASW, Australia

  • Coaching training (ICF-aligned) with years of applied coaching experience

  • Expressive Arts Practitioner

  • Ongoing training in somatic trauma work, yoga-informed practice, and clinical supervision

My experience spans public and private mental health, trauma recovery programs, and integrative private practice across the U.S. and Australia.

Creative Roots

Alongside my clinical practice, I’ve always been drawn to creative and body–mind approaches. I grew up playing the violin, later became a photographer, filmmaker, and poet, and received mentorship in haiku as well as symbolic, archetypal, and earth-based frameworks such as the Medicine Wheel and seasonal cycles. These traditions shaped my understanding of rhythm, balance, and interconnection in how we experience ourselves and the world.

I’ve facilitated circles and creative groups, valuing them as spaces for meaning, connection, and renewal. These roots remain an active part of my work. They don’t replace psychotherapy, but they enrich it — weaving evidence-based practice with creativity, embodiment, and interconnection.

What Inspires My Work

Healing isn’t about becoming someone new — it’s about remembering who you are. My work honours both the science of psychotherapy and the creativity of being human, offering a space where transformation can unfold with resilience and meaning.

👉 If you’re seeking trauma-informed therapy in Australia, or holistic coaching and supervision worldwide, I’d be glad to connect.
