Frequently Asked Questions

Questions & Answers

Therapy & Coaching

Do you offer therapy outside Australia?
I provide psychotherapy and counselling across Australia via secure Telehealth (with Medicare rebates and NDIS access available). Coaching and supervision are available worldwide. For therapy, I can only work with clients who reside in Australia and meet eligibility requirements.

What’s the difference between therapy and coaching?
Therapy addresses mental health concerns such as trauma, anxiety, depression, relationships, and life transitions using evidence-based approaches. Holistic coaching focuses on clarity, alignment, resilience, and purpose, and is available to clients worldwide.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, social worker, counsellor, and coach?
It can be confusing to navigate mental health titles in Australia, so here’s a quick guide:

  • Psychologists – Focus mainly on cognitive and behavioural approaches. They are experts in mental health assessment and brain-based functioning. Many provide therapy under Medicare, though waitlists are often long.

  • Accredited Mental Health Social Workers (AMHSW) – Like psychologists, we provide evidence-based psychotherapy under Medicare. The difference is scope: social workers are trained to understand not only the mind, but also relationships, systems, trauma, and social context. My work blends this clinical depth with a holistic lens.

  • Counsellors / Psychotherapists – Some are highly skilled, but in Australia the titles aren’t legally protected. Training and experience can vary widely, and Medicare rebates aren’t available.

  • Coaches – Coaching focuses on goals, alignment, and growth, but is not clinical psychotherapy. My coaching work is available internationally and draws on somatic and holistic methods rather than medical models.

In short: Psychologists and Accredited Mental Health Social Workers both provide clinical, evidence-based therapy with Medicare rebates. Counsellors and coaches may offer valuable support, but rebates and regulated standards differ.

Access & Rebates

Can I claim Medicare or NDIS for coaching?
No. Medicare and NDIS rebates apply only to therapy services within Australia. Coaching and clinical supervision are private, fee-based services and available internationally.

Do you offer bulk billing?
Bulk billing is not my standard practice. In limited circumstances — such as financial hardship or special referral pathways — I may offer bulk billing for therapy sessions under Medicare. This is considered case by case and discussed individually.

Process & Approach

How do you hold sessions?
Ongoing therapy and supervision are held via secure Zoom Telehealth. For accessibility, free consultations can also be arranged by Zoom, WhatsApp, or phone. Zoom remains the main platform for ongoing sessions to ensure privacy and security.

Do you complete an assessment and treatment plan?
Yes. At the beginning of therapy, I complete a thorough psychological and psychosocial assessment to understand your history, strengths, and current challenges. Together we create a treatment plan with clear goals and strategies, which we review regularly to track progress and adjust as needed.

How often do sessions run?
Most clients begin with weekly or fortnightly sessions to build momentum and consistency. Over time, many transition to monthly or flexible drop-in sessions, depending on needs and goals.

Groups & Community

Do you run groups or programs?
Yes. I facilitate circles, workshops, and programs that focus on nervous system wellbeing, resilience, creative expression, and meaningful connection. These are offered online worldwide and occasionally in person in Castlemaine, Daylesford, and Melbourne.

Practicalities

What’s a free consultation?
A free 30-minute call where we discuss your goals, answer questions, and explore whether therapy, coaching, or supervision is the right fit.

Do you work with men?
Yes. Many of my clients are men — including tradies, professionals, and fathers — who may not have sought help before. I provide a safe, practical, and respectful space to explore stress, emotions, relationships, intimacy, and life direction.
