Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Holistic Counselling & Coaching
Do you offer counselling outside Australia?
I provide psychotherapy-informed counselling to clients who reside in Australia via secure Telehealth. Sessions may be eligible for Medicare rebates with a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan.
Holistic counselling (where appropriate), coaching, mentoring, and supervision are offered privately and are available worldwide.
What’s the difference between counselling and coaching?
Counselling is psychotherapy-informed work that addresses emotional distress, trauma responses, anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, and significant life stressors.
Coaching is non-clinical and focuses on insight, decision-making, resilience, and direction. Coaching is available internationally and does not involve diagnosis, treatment planning, or Medicare rebates.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, social worker, counsellor, and coach?
Mental health titles can be confusing in Australia. Here’s a brief overview:
Psychologists provide evidence-based psychological therapy and assessment. Many work under Medicare, though waitlists can be long.
Accredited Mental Health Social Workers (AMHSW) also provide evidence-based, psychotherapy-informed counselling under Medicare. Social work training places strong emphasis on trauma, relationships, systems, and social context alongside clinical formulation.
Counsellors / Psychotherapists may be highly skilled, but these titles are not legally protected in Australia. Training and scope vary, and Medicare rebates are not available.
Coaches focus on goals, insight, and personal or professional development. Coaching is non-clinical and not covered by Medicare.
In short: Psychologists and Accredited Mental Health Social Workers provide regulated, Medicare-rebated counselling. Counselling and coaching differ in scope, regulation, and funding.
Access & Rebates
Can I claim Medicare for coaching?
No. Medicare rebates apply only to eligible counselling services delivered in Australia. Coaching, mentoring, and supervision are private-pay services.
Do you offer bulk billing?
Bulk billing is not my standard practice. In limited circumstances, it may be considered for counselling sessions under Medicare and is discussed on an individual basis.
Process & Approach
How are sessions held?
Counselling, coaching, and supervision sessions are delivered online via secure Zoom.
Do you complete an assessment and treatment plan?
Yes. Counselling begins with a thorough psychological and psychosocial assessment. Together we establish clear goals and a treatment focus, which are reviewed and adjusted as the work progresses.
How often do sessions run?
Most clients begin with weekly or fortnightly sessions. Over time, some move to monthly or flexible check-in sessions, depending on needs and circumstances.
Do you work with men?
Yes. I work with men of all backgrounds, including those seeking counselling or coaching for the first time. The work is grounded and practical, with attention to stress, emotional regulation, relationships, identity, and life direction.
Workshops
Do you run workshops?
From time to time, I facilitate workshops focused on reflection, nervous system regulation, creative integration, and professional development. These may be offered online or in collaboration with external organisations or retreats. Current offerings are listed as they become available.
